We&#039;ve received your submission.\t<br \/>Facebook exerts dangerous power over public discourse &#8212; and Exhibit A is the tech giant&#8217;s censorship of commentary on the Kyle Rittenhouse case, a media critic told The Post Saturday.<br \/>Rittenhouse was acquitted Friday of all charges against him stemming from the shooting of three men during riots in Kenosha, Wisc., last August. Two of those men, Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber, died of their injuries. Rittenhouse acted in lawful self-defense, a Wisconsin jury ruled.  <br \/>Though Rittenhouse is legally presumed innocent until proven otherwise, the court of Facebook was considerably less impartial.<br \/>\u201cOne of the big things that they did was manipulate the search engine so you couldn\u2019t even find any references to Kyle Rittenhouse,\u201d Dan Gainor, vice president of the Media Research Center, told The Post. \u201cThey\u2019re out of touch with normal people.&#8221;<br \/>But it didn&#8217;t only restrict search content for Rittenhouse &#8212; it actively policed its users for pro-Rittenhouse posts. <br \/>Public messages supporting Rittenhouse \u2014\u00a0some using the phrase \u201cFree Kyle\u201d \u2014 were removed. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisconsinrightnow.com\/2021\/11\/14\/kyle-rittenhouse-facebook-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Even legal analysis<\/a> arguing the merits of his self-defense case disappeared.  <br \/>\u201cWe\u2019ve designated the shooting in Kenosha a mass murder and are removing posts in support of the shooter,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/facebook-bans-posts-in-support-of-alleged-kenosha-shooter-kyle-rittenhouse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Facebook <\/a>said at the time. <br \/>&#8220;We don\u2019t allow symbols, praise or support of dangerous individuals or organizations on Facebook. We define dangerous as things like: terrorist activity, organized hate or violence, mass or serial murder, human trafficking, criminal or harmful activity,\u201d the company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisconsinrightnow.com\/2021\/11\/14\/kyle-rittenhouse-facebook-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">has said elsewhere<\/a> of the case.<br \/>\u201cIts dangerous that they have this much power over what can be discussed in a public forum,\u201d Gainor said. &#8220;They could prevent free elections in every free country in the world if they wanted to.\u201d<br \/>Even among some of the company&#8217;s left-leaning employees,&nbsp;the heavy hand didn&#8217;t sit well. In internal discussions <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/10\/27\/facebook-employee-warned-colleagues-were-drunk-on-power-docs\/?utm_source=NYPTwitter&amp;utm_medium=SocialFlow&amp;utm_campaign=SocialFlow\">obtained by The Post<\/a> one Facebook employee accused his colleagues of abusing the censorious power of their platform when it came to protests in Kenosha following the shooting.  <br \/>&#8220;The rioting has been going on for over three months and it\u2019s only an issue now because people inside the company saw violence they didn\u2019t like,\u201d the staffer said. \u201cEmployees are drunk on the absolute power of being in control of civics in America, without ever having to visit a voting booth (if voting is even an option).\u201d<br \/>Facebook was far from alone in prejudging the outcome\u00a0and was only\u00a0the most visible of Big Tech&#8217;s hidden hand to influence events. Twitter too suspended people who dared to say Rittenhouse was innocent \u2014 including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/09\/02\/kyle-rittenhouses-lawyer-slams-twitter-for-suspension\/\">his own attorney<\/a>.\u00a0<br \/>The fundraising platform GoFundMe refused to allow Rittenhouse fans to raise money for his legal defense. They later reversed the position after his acquittal. <br \/>The New York Times pulled their punches too. The Gray Lady refused to run an article documenting the devastation to lives and business in Kenosha until after the 2020 presidential election, according to the story\u2019s author, Nellie Bowles.<br \/>Bowles said she was sent to report on the \u201cmainstream liberal argument\u201d that vandalizing buildings for racial justice was not detrimental because businesses had insurance.<br \/>\u201cIt turned out to be not true,\u201d Bowles wrote. \u201cThe part of Kenosha that people burned in the riots was the poor, multi-racial commercial district, full of small, underinsured cell phone shops and car lots.
