These pages earned tens of millions of interactions in one day \u2014\u00a0numbers not seen since January 6 and the early days of the Biden administration.<br \/>On November 19, a jury <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2021\/11\/19\/rittenhouse-verdict-live-updates\/\">acquitted<\/a> Kyle Rittenhouse on all five charges he faced after fatally shooting two people and wounding a third in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2021\/11\/20\/1057571558\/what-we-know-3-men-kyle-rittenhouse-victims-rosenbaum-huber-grosskreutz.\">August 2020<\/a>. The acquittal was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/videos\/media\/2021\/11\/21\/kyle-rittenhouse-verdict-right-wing-media-fox-news-coverage-stelter-commentary-rs-vpx.cnn\">met<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediamatters.org\/steven-crowder\/youtube-steven-crowder-encourages-people-take-arms-against-protesters-its-not-only\">with<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/11\/19\/the-lionization-of-kyle-rittenhouse-by-the-right-523054\">praise<\/a> from right-wing media outlets and personalities, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediamatters.org\/fox-news\/fox-news-gutfeld-praises-kenosha-shooter-killing-protesters-and-doing-what-government\">who<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediamatters.org\/daily-wire\/daily-wire-host-calls-alleged-kenosha-shooter-victim-story\">had<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediamatters.org\/fox-news\/fox-guest-kyle-rittenhouse-little-bit-icon\">spent<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediamatters.org\/tucker-carlson\/tucker-carlson-guest-they-genuinely-believe-kyle-rittenhouse-should-not-have-stopped\">months<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediamatters.org\/tucker-carlson\/foxs-pirro-defends-kenosha-shooter-kid-not-mass-murderer-there-were-several-times-he\">defending<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediamatters.org\/fox-news\/foxs-martha-maccallum-it-okay-citizens-take-it-their-own-hands\">Rittenhouse<\/a> and even hailing him as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediamatters.org\/steven-crowder\/youtube-steven-crowder-calls-kenosha-shooter-kyle-rittenhouse-hero\">hero<\/a>.\u00a0<br \/>On Facebook, right-leaning pages and group members praised the jury verdict, while also disparaging the victims, calling on Rittenhouse to sue mainstream media outlets and President Joe Biden, praising the jury for being brave and not being intimidated into giving a guilty verdict, and even calling for violence.<br \/>On the day of Rittenhouse\u2019s acquittal, right-leaning pages <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/0gZyt\">earned 29.9 million<\/a> interactions on all of their posts. This level of engagement was higher than what these pages have earned in any one day since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/donald-trump\/live-blog\/2021-02-13-trump-impeachment-trial-live-updates-n1257801\">February 13<\/a>, when former President Donald Trump was acquitted by the Senate for his role in the deadly attack on the Capitol.<br \/>In fact, there are only five days this year that right-leaning pages exceeded the engagement they got on November 19. They earned:<br \/>Media Matters analyzed posts related to Rittenhouse from news and politics pages that were posted between 1 p.m. EST November 19 (roughly the time the jury\u2019s verdict was read) and 12 a.m. EST November 22. We found that right-leaning pages earned over 27.9 million interactions on 3,122 posts, while left-leaning pages earned roughly 3.2 million interactions on 742 posts, and ideologically nonaligned pages earned roughly 5.6 million interactions on 2,012 posts.\u00a0<br \/>Notably, the interactions earned by right-leaning pages accounted for over 76% of all interactions earned on related posts from all politics and news pages, even though they accounted for only 53% of posts.<br \/>Right-leaning pages also accounted for a disproportionate amount of the top 100 posts, with 87 of the top 100 posts coming from right-leaning pages and earning roughly 12.7 million interactions. Right-leaning pages also accounted for nearly all of the top 50 posts, with only one of the posts coming from a left-leaning page.<br \/>Additionally, all of the top 10 posts about Rittenhouse following the verdict were from right-leaning pages &#8212; including pages for right-wing media outlets Fox News and Newsmax and right-wing media personalities The Hodgetwins, Dan Bongino, Ben Shapiro, and Kayleigh McEnany.
