(WDBJ) &#8211; You never know how many people you can reach with the simplest actions.<br \/>\u201cI mean, I figured some people would catch on, but not like it did,\u201d said Janet Chaney, the creator of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/454710755515855\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Neighborhood Christmas Light Displays of Salem &amp; Roanoke Area<\/a>.<br \/>She never thought a Facebook page dedicated solely to Christmas lights would be seen by nearly 13,000 people. The idea began last year, just so people could find her house. Since then, it\u2019s taken off.<br \/>\u201cI live off the beaten path in the community, so not a lot of people get to see it, and then I realized, \u2018well there\u2019s a lot of people in the area who decorate and I don\u2019t know where they are or how to see them, so it would be great to have a centralized location where everyone can post something, post lights, houses, so people know where to go,\u2019\u201d said Chaney.<br \/>Jason Paker quickly joined the effort, contributing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/d\/viewer?fbclid=IwAR35XzG1sbCzM-5Q9TsLji3CoqRMyTXC5i0RPbvcD2i2tyPz56j7v52V-tc&#038;mid=1fjAFjch-Y8jc9kBbD6fhuiYRw52gz_Ck&#038;ll=37.25999035137517%2C-79.85609545&#038;z=9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a map<\/a>. From Daleville down to the town of Narrows, houses with light displays are marked. The map has more locations added each day.<br \/>\u201cOne thing we\u2019ve done is added a layer to the map with events so things like the Salem Christmas Tree lighting and parade or Dickens of a Christmas in Roanoke. All those things are added to the map with a special icon,\u201d said Jason Parker.<br \/>The page and the map keep Janet and Jason busy, but they don\u2019t mind.<br \/>\u201cLast year I was outside when a car was going by and a child rolled down the window and said \u2018thank you for the lights!\u2019 I may or may not have wanted to cry a little bit,\u201d recalled Chaney.<br \/>\u201cEverybody who puts lights out, it\u2019s like a gift to everybody who rides by or walks by or happens to see it,\u201d said Parker.<br \/>They started as strangers, and now have a year long friendship in the books over their joint love of a holiday, and the cheer that holiday brings.<br \/><i>Copyright 2021 WDBJ.
