{"id":2636,"date":"2022-01-27T01:13:11","date_gmt":"2022-01-27T00:13:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/monblogeur.tech\/index.php\/2022\/01\/27\/town-supervisor-faces-calls-to-resign-over-racist-facebook-post-democrat-chronicle\/"},"modified":"2022-01-27T01:13:11","modified_gmt":"2022-01-27T00:13:11","slug":"town-supervisor-faces-calls-to-resign-over-racist-facebook-post-democrat-chronicle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/monblogeur.tech\/index.php\/2022\/01\/27\/town-supervisor-faces-calls-to-resign-over-racist-facebook-post-democrat-chronicle\/","title":{"rendered":"Town supervisor faces calls to resign over racist Facebook post &#8211; Democrat &amp; Chronicle"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"cfbc967f0983488262956e73eca9483a\" data-index=\"1\" style=\"float: none; margin:10px 0 10px 0; text-align:center;\">\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3859091246952232\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- blok -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3859091246952232\" data-ad-slot=\"1334354390\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\r\n\n<\/div>\n<p>A town supervisor in Seneca County who posted a cartoon about white supremacy on social media is now facing pressure to resign.\u00a0<br \/>Don Trout, the supervisor in the Town of Waterloo, earlier this month\u00a0publicly shared a cartoon listing \u00ab\u00a0the warning signs of white supremacy,\u00a0\u00bb on his personal Facebook page.<br \/>The Jan. 13 post was shared more than 370 times within a week, and drew more than 100 comments, some of which supported the views while others sharply criticized and condemned the post.The post is no longer public on his page.<br \/>Waterloo Town Board member Mike Pfeiffer at Monday&rsquo;s town board meeting emphasized that Trout&rsquo;s post does not reflect the views of\u00a0he and the other three town councilmen.<br \/>\u00ab\u00a0Whatever his intention was, it was in poor taste,\u00a0\u00bb he said, adding that he has asked Trout for his resignation \u00ab\u00a0in the best interest of the town.\u00a0\u00bb<br \/>Trout has not resigned and did\u00a0not respond to a message seeking\u00a0comment.<br \/>In a letter to Trout and the rest of Waterloo&rsquo;s Town Board members, Rob Millis, a former New York resident who now lives in Oregon, called the post \u00a0\u201cstraight up racist.\u201d<br \/>\u00ab\u00a0This is posted publicly by someone who is supposed to be representing and serving your community,\u201d Millis said. \u201cI can\u2019t imagine what it would be like to be a person of color living in or even visiting Waterloo after seeing this.\u201d<br \/>Trout,\u00a0a Republican, defended the post and said he considered it \u00ab\u00a0nothing more than political satire.\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0<br \/>The post lists eight traits of a white supremacist, such as \u00ab\u00a0no criminal record, \u00ab\u00a0good credit rating\u00a0\u00bb and \u00ab\u00a0full time employment.\u00a0\u00bb Some people continued listing entries on the posts \u2014 others shared memes and comments blasting the post and the supervisor:<br \/><em>\u00ab\u00a0Usually it\u2019s a traitor and Nazi flag that give it away.\u00a0\u00bb<\/em><br \/><em>\u00ab\u00a0Disgusting\u00a0\u00bb<\/em><br \/><em>\u00ab\u00a0Imagine being this racist and thinking you\u2019re not racist.\u00a0\u00bb<\/em><br \/>Millis said he came across the post on social media and couldn&rsquo;t \u00ab\u00a0let it sit and fester online to hurt and exclude people public officials are supposed to be serving.\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0<br \/>\u201cPromoting such racist ideas is disgustingly supremacist, divisive\u00a0and hostile to the public interest,\u201d Millis said.<br \/>Trout has been Waterloo&rsquo;s supervisor since 2018 and\u00a0is also a member of Seneca County&rsquo;s Board of Supervisors.
