The Guidelines and amendments can both be found in our Transparency Center. <\/span><br \/><em><strong>Originally published on September 23, 2021 at 2:00PM PT:<\/strong><\/em><br \/><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Today, we&#8217;re publishing Facebook\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/transparency.fb.com\/en-gb\/features\/approach-to-ranking\/types-of-content-we-demote\/\">Content Distribution Guidelines<\/a> to share more detail on how content is distributed on Facebook.\u00a0<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/communitystandards\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Community Standards<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> make it clear what content is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">removed<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> from Facebook because we don\u2019t allow it on the platform, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the Content Distribution Guidelines make it clear what content receives <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">reduced<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> distribution on News Feed because it\u2019s problematic or low quality. Many of these guidelines have been shared in various announcements, but in efforts to provide clarity and make them more accessible, we want to bring them together in one easy-to-navigate space in our Transparency Center.\u00a0<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.fb.com\/news\/2016\/06\/building-a-better-news-feed-for-you\/\">we work to improve News Feed<\/a>, we rely on overarching <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">core values<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to guide that process. The changes we make, particularly ones focused on limiting the spread of problematic content, are based on extensive feedback from our global community and external experts. Over the last few years, we\u2019ve consulted more than 100 stakeholders across a range of relevant focus areas to solicit feedback on how to bring more insightful transparency to our efforts to reduce problematic content.\u00a0<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We\u2019ve<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> previously discussed our <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">efforts to <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.fb.com\/news\/2019\/04\/people-publishers-the-community\/\">reduce the distribution of problematic or low-quality content<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">based on the needs of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">people, creators, and our community<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There are three principal reasons why we might reduce the distribution of content:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We\u2019ll continue to update the Content Distribution Guidelines to provide people with information about how we define and treat problematic or low-quality content that doesn\u2019t otherwise violate our Community Standards.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Content Distribution Guidelines are already in effect today, some globally and others specific to certain locations. Our <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/help\/publisher\/newsfeedguidelines\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Publisher Guidelines<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> continue to provide specific information relevant to creators interested in learning more about distribution on Facebook.
