I used to be a fundamentalist before graduate school. So, I have a lot of fundamentalists in my Facebook friends. One of them continually pushes anti-vaccine conspiracy theory nonsense. When I see that, I can’t ignore it.
.
.
A fundamentalist within my Facebook circle keeps persistently posting anti-vaccine conspiracy theory nonsense. This time, she quoted from a fellow conspiracy theorist who took data out of context from England to show that the vaccines were not effective. They pointed out that according to official data from England just out, more people over 40 who are vaccinated caught COVID than who who were not vaccinated.
.,”
,
So, I found the original document from the government and read it. I pointed out that the same document showed that far more people who were not vaccinated had to go to the ER for a severe case of COVID than people who were vaccinated and this is true at all ages. I pointed out that this is also true for those who died due to COVID. More people who were not vaccinated died due to COVID than people who were vaccinated and this is true for all ages. I pointed out that we have been explaining for months that boosters were needed because of the mutations of the virus and because the protection from catching COVID wanes over time. Since that is true and more people are vaccinated than not vaccinated, then why should this surprise us ? Finally, I noted the proclivity of the conspiracy theorists to go to any other place on Earth to find data to try to attack the efficacy of the vaccines instead of the United States which is more relevant for conspiracy theorists who reside within this country.
I am afraid I was a little more blunt than usual because this is not a game. These anti-vaccine conspiracy theories are costing us lives.

75% to 80% of evangelicals support and voted for Trump in the 2020 election. The same is true of my old fundamentalist pastor whose knowledge of the Bible is exhaustive. I don’t believe that 80% of evangelicals have misunderstood their religion, especially not my old pastor. If they insist that if you are an evangelical, you must support and vote for Trump and his Republican Party, then I believe them. I just conclude from that that evangelicalism is false. I could say that proposition P is evangelical Christianity is true and that F is another proposition (a false proposition that you must support and vote for Trump and his Republican Party). So, I have P—>F . Undoubtedly, this isn’t actually a formal disproof of evangelical Christianity but in my estimation, it’s damn close.
.
.
I elaborate on this (why you must support and vote for Trump and his Republican Party is false) below.
.
.
I have previously pointed out 15 serious felonies Trump committed and how Trump and his Republican Party are attempting to eradicate democracy (I point out all of the prominent republicans who reject Trump’s claims of widespread voter fraud . That shows that Trump’s claims are false which means Trump and the Republican Party attempted a coup multiple times). I am going to list the crimes I am referring so that the reader has immediate and easy access to them.
.
.
,
.
Again, 75-80% of evangelicals/fundamentalists voted for Donald Trump in both 2016 and 2020. This makes it look to me like being an evangelical requires a person to support and vote for Donald Trump and his Republican Party which he owns.
.
.
Here I began listing the crimes Trump committed that I am referring to. Robert Mueller was a Marine and the former director of the FBI and a CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN . In his report, he documented ten instances in which Trump committed Obstruction of Justice. The OLC (Office of Legal Counsel) within the DOJ recommended that the DOJ not indict the president, whomever it is in whatever year, because the president is too busy. That’s the only reason Mueller did not go forward with prosecuting Trump.
.
.
In June of 2015, Donald Trump jr met with Natalia Veselnitskaya, a Russian lawyer connected to Donald Trump, on the third floor of Trump Tower for a quid pro quo . In exchange for opposition research on Hillary Clinton, they would rescind the Magnitsky Act , a policy hurting Russians mobsters. This information, opposition research, would have helped him defeat Hillary Clinton. This means that Trump’s campaign solicited something of value to the campaign from a foreign national. That’s a felony. It is a violation of campaign finance law.
.
.
Donald Trump greatly reduced the claimed value of his property to lower his tax liability. At about the same time, he greatly increased the claimed value of the same exact property when he used that property as collateral for a loan from a bank. That is textbook Bank and Tax Fraud.
.
.
Michael Cohen was the fixer for Donald Trump and helped him with many significant issues. In October of 2016, Cohen under instruction from Donald Trump as his attorney, Rudy Giuliani admitted on television on Fox News, paid two porn stars , one of whom was Stormy Daniels, to be silent until after the election. That was clearly done to help Trump win the election. This is the obvious intent given the timing. The amount paid to them was far more than the legal limit for campaign donations. Donald Trump reimbursed Cohen as Giuliani also admitted on the same television program. Cohen was put in prison for violating campaign finance laws. Since it was clearly done in order to benefit Trump and with his knowledge, Trump should also have been prosecuted just like Cohen.

Congress is given the power of the purse in the US Constitution Article 1 Section 8 . Congress approved foreign aid for Ukraine. Congress verified that Ukraine was eligible for the foreign aid. While the president doesn’t have any constitutional power to delay the foreign aid, it does go out through the Department of Treasury. Trump had the foreign aid delayed . Ukraine badly needed the foreign aid to defend itself against Russia. Finally, the Ukrainian President became desperate as they were badly in need of the foreign aid. On a telephone call between Donald Trump and the Ukrainian President, the Ukrainian President asked for the foreign aid already approved by Congress. Donald Trump responded that he needed a favor though. This made clear that Donald Trump was adding a new condition for receiving the foreign aid. Donald Trump then demanded NOT that Ukraine perform a quiet investigation, but rather that UKRAINE ANNOUNCE an investigation into the actions of the son of a political opponent. Notice that Trump only insisted upon an announcement of an investigation, not an actual investigation.
.
.
This is two crimes. It is Abuse of Power since Donald Trump clearly did not have the constitutional authority to delay nor to add additional conditions upon the foreign aid. Second, it is also soliciting a campaign contribution which is a thing of value, the announcement of an investigation into the son of a political opponent, from a foreign national, the Ukrainian President.
.
.
Some seven Senate Republicans voted to convict Donald Trump of inciting the insurrection. Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said that Donald Trump was morally and practically responsible for the insurrection. Inciting an insurrection is a crime.
.
.
That’s not an exhaustive list of the serious crimes Donald Trump has committed. Numerous prominent republicans pointed out that Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election and that it was devoid of widespread voter fraud.
.
.
Chris Krebs was NOMINATED BY TRUMP TO SERVE AS CYBERSECURITY EXPERT TO PROTECT THE ELECTION WITHIN DOJ. He is a conservative republican and he said that the 2020 presidential election was the most secure in the nation’s history.
.
,
Arizona Governor Doug Ducey is a conservative republican and he said, “Joe Biden did win Arizona.”
.
,
Rush Limbaugh said that it was “not good “ that Donald Trump claimed massive evidence of widespread voter fraud and didn’t produce any in court.
.
,
Bill Barr applied to serve as attorney general of the United States by sending a document to Donald Trump about how he would defend Donald Trump from the Trump / Russia investigation even though he was asking to be the attorney general of the United States not the attorney general of Donald Trump. He further showed his partisanship by misrepresenting the Mueller Report with his summary. That’s how committed to the Republican Party and Donald Trump Bill Barr is. Yet, Bill Barr said that Trump’s claim that he actually won the 2020 election and that Joe Biden somehow cheated “Bullshit”.
.
,
Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger is a conservative republican and he refuted Trump’s claims that there was widespread voter fraud.
.
,
Gabriel Sterling is a conservative republican and an election administrator in Georgia and he repeatedly held press conferences in which he one by one refuted each of the fallacious claims of voter fraud Trump made.
.
,
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is so extremely partisan that he said that his first priority was not helping the country recover from the latest republican recession, but rather making sure that President Obama did not win re-election. He made it clear in his speech that he viewed Trump’s fallacious claims of widespread voter fraud as “lies”.
.
,
Mitt Romney, the last presidential nominee of the Republican Party, made clear that he viewed Trump’s fallacious claims of widespread voter fraud to be false as did President George W Bush.
.
,
Senator Pat Toomey is a republican US Senator who represents Pennsylvania and he made it clear that any claim that Donald Trump won Pennsylvania is false.
.
,
Chris Christie pointed out that he voted for Donald Trump for president twice, but that if Trump’s legal team did not produce evidence to support the fallacious claims of widespread voter fraud, then the only reason would be because they did not have any such evidence.
.
,
42 of the 50 Senate Republicans did NOT vote to object to the electoral college votes. They, therefore, made it clear that they rejected Trump’s fallacious claims of widespread voter fraud.
.
,
More than half of the judges and justices who heard cases involving Trump’s claims of widespread voter fraud were republicans and were appointed by republican presidents including Donald Trump and yet Trump ultimately ended up losing every case.
.
,
This isn’t a complete list of all of the prominent republicans who rejected Trump’s claims of widespread voter fraud. Still, it shows something of the breadth of opposition to Trump’s fallacious claims of widespread voter fraud. IN TODAY’S HYPER PARTISAN CLIMATE, IF THERE WAS ANY COMPELLING EVIDENCE FOR TRUMP’S FALLACIOUS CLAIMS OF WIDESPREAD VOTER FRAUD, ZERO REPUBLICANS WOULD HAVE REJECTED TRUMP’S CLAIMS. The fact that there are so many prominent republicans who reject Trump’s fallacious claims of widespread voter fraud shows in and of itself that Trump’s claims are false.
.
,
The point of this is now here. If Trump actually did lose and we just demonstrated he did, then WHAT DOES THAT MAKE TRUMP’S ATTEMPTS TO STAY IN POWER ? IT MAKES THEM FAILED COUP ATTEMPTS. DO YOU UNDERSTAND HOW SERIOUS IT IS THAT A SITTING PRESIDENT ATTEMPTED TO STAY IN POWER DESPITE LOSING THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE VOTE? THAT’S THE ACT OF A WOULD BE DICTATOR.
.
,
ANYBODY BACKING TRUMP IS BACKING HIS ATTEMPTED COUPS AND IS AN ENEMY OF DEMOCRACY. DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT HAPPENS IF WE LOSE OUR DEMOCRACY AND A DICTATOR IS IN POWER ? YOU MIGHT THINK THAT IS FINE BECAUSE YOU SUPPORT THIS PARTICULAR DICTATOR BUT EVENTUALLY THE DICTATOR WILL CONSOLIDATE POWER AND DO THINGS YOU OPPOSE AND YOU WILL BE POWERLESS TO STOP HIM BECAUSE THE OUTCOME OF THE ELECTION NO LONGER MATTERS.
.
,
So far, we have shown that Donald Trump committed at least 15 serious felonies and attempted a coup.
.
,
Next we can show that Trump made many decisions about the pandemic that cost lives because he cared more about staying in power than saving lives from the pandemic. The conclusion of all of this is that if any worldview implied or required its adherents to support and vote for Donald Trump and republicans, THEN IT IS A FALSE WORLDVIEW.
.
,
This comes very close to A FORMAL DISPROOF OF FUNDAMENTALIST CHRISTIANITY. By FUNDAMENTALISTS GOING ALL IN FOR DONALD TRUMP, THEY HAVE THROWN AWAY THEIR WITNESS AND LEAD A NUMBER OF PEOPLE LIKE ME TO CONCLUDE CHRISTIANITY IS FALSE. I don’t see how I can avoid this ? People whom I consider experts on the Bible are vociferous in their support for Trump even from the pulpit. I don’t believe that 80% of fundamentalists have misunderstood their faith. So that means that their faith is simply false.
.
,
Right now fundamentalists are pushing conspiracy theories that are costing people their lives. Fundamentalists are backing a political party that is eradicating our democracy. I can’t support that. I can’t be part of a religion that claims to be the moral compass and yet backs a bigot and a bigoted party, backs the most immoral president to ever occupy the White House, and backs a president who has committed at least 15 serious felonies and attempted a coup more than once. How could decent people whom I assume live moral lives back the most immoral president to ever hold the office, a guy who had some 25 affairs over 3 marriages, a guy who attempted to have sex with a married woman while his own wife, his third wife, was pregnant, committed at least 15 serious felonies, and attempted a coup repeatedly? How can decent and moral people back a president who repeatedly chose to act in ways that were clearly going to cost us lives due to the pandemic because he thought that said acts would help him win re-election? How can a decent and moral person back a president who valued retaining his political office over the lives of Americans in the pandemic?
.
,
Donald Trump refused to act at all because COVID was hitting blue states first. Donald Trump called it a hoax because he thought that if voters believed the pandemic was real, then he might be held responsible for it. He opposed wearing masks long after the CDC realized that there were enough masks to go around and they were effective because he thought voters might resent wearing a mask. He opposed widespread testing because he thought that voters would hold a high count against him. He opposed shutting down the economy temporarily because he thought that a bad economy would cost him the election. He had people attending his campaign rallies get closer together so that it would look like his campaign rallies were packed full of people because he thought that this would help him win re-election. He refused to take the lead on the pandemic because he was afraid that if it went badly, the voters would hold it against him. This led to myriad different policies instead of one strong policy which contained it. He held live rallies at which social distancing and mask wearing were discouraged because he thought voters might get upset at him over the inconvenience. He didn’t show his own vaccination and did not consistently promote vaccination . He pushed for states to be reopened too early. He made states have to buy equipment and supplies needed when the federal government can deficit spend and has a larger budget than states do. All of these acts cost us many lives from COVID and Donald Trump made those choices because he thought that they would help him win re-election.
.
,
Again, I don’t see how it is possible for decent and moral people to support Trump and his Republican Party at all. Whatever practical good such people may be doing on the one hand is outweighed by the lives lost due to pushing conspiracy theory nonsense about the vaccines and by backing a political party and its leader who are eradicating our democracy.
.
,
In modern American political history, the losing presidential candidate always concedes because they value our democracy over their political office. Al Gore was the only exception and that was a completely different situation. That election in 2000 was decided by ONE STATE (not 3 states like the 2020 presidential election) which had a margin of 537 votes (not over 10,000 like the 2020 presidential election) and both sides won court decisions (again unlike the 2020 presidential election) . After the Supreme Court issued its decision, Al Gore did concede.
.
,
Every other losing presidential candidate in modern American history conceded promptly , well within 24 hours . Carter, Mondale, George HW Bush, Dole, eventually Gore, Kerry, McCain, Romney, and Hillary Clinton. An election decided by 3 states each with a five digit margin has NEVER been overturned whether by court cases or by recounts in our modern political history. As I showed above, numerous prominent republicans pointed out that Trump’s claims of widespread voter fraud were false. There is no way an educated and honest person with experience in elections and politics could have done this in good faith. Therefore, it was futile to try to oppose this by trying to get republicans in Congress to object to counting the electoral college votes. It along with the insurrection were attempts at a coup.
.
,
The only other time that there was a written objection to counting electoral college votes was once in 2004, but it also was different than 2020. Senator Boxer admitted that John Kerry had lost and said that her purpose was not to contest who won the election but to protest the long lines and voter suppression in Ohio. John Kerry had already conceded immediately and he opposed what Senator Boxer did. That election was won/lost by one state, Ohio. All of this is different than what republicans did in the 2020 presidential election.
.
,
Conceding tells those who backed the losing candidate that the election was fair and shows that we need to back the new president. Voters are more likely to listen to their presidential candidate. That’s why it’s so important that the losing presidential candidate concede and admit defeat. That’s why it is such a bad choice by Trump not to concede.
.
,
For all of these reasons, it was very wrong and a terrible idea for fundamentalists to back Trump and now that their religion is so completely identified with Trump and the Republican Party, it appears very difficult to deny that their religion is false.
The diary is clearly way too short!
