Meta Platforms, the company formerly known as Facebook, has signed two new office leases in Silicon Valley, according to Bloomberg.
One of the offices is a 719,000-square-foot space in Sunnyvale, which previously was the headquarters of NetApp. This property was purchased by real estate company Tishman Speyer for $365 million last spring. The other new Meta office is a 520,000-square-feet space in Burlingame, the San Francisco Chronicle reported this week. (SFGATE and the San Francisco Chronicle are both owned by Hearst but operate independently of one another.)
This news comes after the CEO of San Francisco’s largest office landlord let slip to the San Francisco Chronicle  last month that Facebook was seeking to expand in Silicon Valley by 700,000 square feet. 
At the time, a spokesperson for the company would not confirm the potential expansion, telling the Chronicle, « We are always evaluating our facilities and real estate needs, but we don’t comment on rumors. »
A Meta spokesperson told Bloomberg that they leased the new Silicon Valley office spaces to reduce employee commute times. Starting next year, Meta employees will be expected to transition from fully remote work to working in offices about half of their work week. 
Earlier this year, the tech giant also announced plans to start building a village near its Menlo Park headquarters. The mixed-use project is called Willow Village and is slated to feature its own supermarket, pharmacy, cafes, hotel and “town square” as well as new office space and apartments. Construction on Willow Village may start as soon as next year.
